About the Symposium
The 3rd Annual Allies in Health LGBTQ+ Health Research Symposium aims to bring together students and faculty to explore the latest research on LGBTQ+ health disparities and best practices in patient care. The event will feature a poster session, where UTMB students can showcase their latest work on LGBTQ+ health topics, and a networking session to foster connections among researchers and colleagues. Additionally, we will announce the recipient of the LGBTQ+ Champion Award, honoring a UTMB community member who has made outstanding contributions to advancing LGBTQ+ inclusion and advocacy.
Keynote Speaker: Dr. Lisa Campo-Englestein
Dr. Campo-Englestein is a feminist bioethicist. She conducts research in the areas of male contraception, fertility preservation, reproductive and sexual ethics, queer bioethics, and more. She is the Director of the Institute for Bioethics & Health Humanities and the Harris L. Kempner Chair in the Humanities in Medicine Professor in the School of Public and Population Health at UTMB.
Share Your Research
We invite all attendees to share their research in poster format relating to LGBTQIA+ healthcare equity, best-practices, public and community health concerns, and beyond. Deadline to submit is December 2, 2024.
The 2024 LGBTQ+ Champion Award
We invite you to submit your nominations for the 2024 LGBTQ+ Champion Award. This award recognizes an individual within the UTMB health system who has demonstrated their dedication to improving the lives of the LGBTQ+ community.

Jason Lee, B.A., MS2
Jason Lee (he/him) is a second-year medical student who is currently interested in internal medicine, with particular interests in public health, bioethics, and medical advocacy. He holds a B.A. in Sociology from Rice University.
Vivian Lee, M.A., LPC, MS2
Vivian Lee (any pronouns) is a genderfluid therapist-turned-med-student (plus some other careers before that) who is currently interested in psychiatry, neurology, or internal medicine. She holds an M.A. in Counseling from Texas State University and a B.S. in Economics & Management from MIT.
